9/10:The Matrix (1 only!!!),District 9,Star wars legacy。

   闪光之作 7/10:Dark city,The thirteenth floor,Minority report。

6/10:The abyss, The sphere, Jurassic Park,Terminator 1&2,Alien 1&2…………

Montreal

A blog for Kayla

Delia Elena San Marco

We said good-bye on one of the corners of the Plaza del Once.
From the sidewalk on the other side I turned and look back; you had turned, and you waved good-bye.
A river of vehicles and people ran between us; it was five o’clock on no particular afternoon. How was I to know that the river was the sad Acheron, which no one may cross twice?
Then we lost sight of each other, and a year later you were dead.
And now I search out that memory and gaze at it and think that it was false, and that under that trivial farewell there lay an infinite separation.
Last night I did not go out after dinner. To understand these things, I reread the last lesson that Plato put in his teacher’s mouth. I read that the soul can flee when the flesh dies.
And now I do not know whether the truth is in the ominous later interpretation or in the innocent farewell.
To say good-bye is to deny separation; it is to say “Today we play at going our own ways, but we will see each other tomorrow.” Men invented farewells because they somehow knew themselves to be immortal, even while seeing themselves as contingent and ephemeral.
One day we will pick up this uncertain conversation again, Delia - on the band of what river? - and we will ask ourselves whether we were once, in a city vanished into the plains, Borges and Delia.

- By Jorge Luis Borges, translated by Andrew Hurley

I am leaving B-town to a conference this Sunday, and Kayla will go to Canada next week. I said goodbye to her this Friday, and then I found this sad yet beautiful article by JLB...
Farewell Kayla, maybe we meet again, sometime, somewhere.

Life is more unlikely than stories...

sometimes life is more unlikely than story :)

PS: Hail Irene Jacob~~~ I know you are beautiful :)))

2:Van Loon
6:how do we judge people? Or rather, how should I judge people? I choose to judge people by what they do.
7:about the definition of "people" in 6, please refer to 1.
8:back to "children of huangshi". no matter how hollywood it is, how dramatize it is, it is still based on a true story. After all, it is about one man and what he chose to do.
9: People who believes in utopia usually do more harm than good. Or there are people like Hogg (the guy in the movie), who dealt with simple and small things; and little things became epic.
10: How to determine what people really do?

 人本来不适于孤独的生存;

a beautiful poem by Borges

English Poem

What can I hold you with?

I offer you lean streets, desperate sunsets, the moon
   of the jagged suburbs.

I offer you the bitterness of a man who has looked
long and long at the lonely moon.

I offer you my ancestors, my dead men, the ghosts
that living men have honored in marble:
my father's father killed in the frontier of
Buenos Aires, two bullets through his lungs,
bearded and dead, wrapped by his soldiers
in the hide of a cow; my mother's grandfather
   -- just twenty-four -- heading a charge of
three hundred men in Peru, now ghosts
   on vanished horses.

I offer you whatever insight my books may hold,
whatever manliness or humour my life.

I offer you the loyalty of a man who has never
   been loyal.

I offer you that kernel of myself that I have saved,
somehow -- the central heart that deals not
in words, traffics not with dreams, and is
untouched by time, by joy, by adversities.

I offer you the memory of a yellow rose seen
at sunset, years before you were born.

I offer you explanations of yourself, theories about yourself,
authentic and surprising news of yourself.

I can give you my loneliness, my darkness, the hunger of my heart;
I am trying to bribe you with uncertainty, with danger, with defeat.

- Jorge Luis Borges (1934)
